Boys’ basketball: Bryan Alberts sparks Village Christian to title

Sophomore Bryan Alberts, a 6-foot-5 point guard, took charge in the fourth quarter, scoring nine of his 18 points, to help Sun Valley Village Christian defeat Pasadena Muir, 58-47, in the championship game of the La Salle/Temple City tournament. It was Muir’s first defeat after 11 consecutive victories.
Village Christian improved to 15-1. Marquis Salmon had 13 points and Marsalis Johnson added 11 points.
Jelani Mitchell scored 13 points for Muir. Alberts was named most valuable player of the tournament.
In the third-place game, Maranatha received 31 points from Jeremy Major to defeat St. Francis, 60-56.
