An assistant freshman football coach at Newhall Hart was arrested Thursday on a felony sex charge, Sgt. Derrick Ballentine of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. said. The arrest was first reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Signal.
Nicolas Ovendale, 20, was the defensive line coach for the freshman team. He was charged with violating Section 288 of the California Penal Code involving a minor, Ballentine said.
Varsity football Coach Mike Herrington said he was told by Principal Collyn Nielsen not to comment.
