When you score 34 points against Long Beach Poly in a basketball game, people take notice. That’s what point guard Max Guercy of Mission Hills Alemany accomplished in an 81-71 loss to the Jackrabbits on Thursday night.

Guercy earned plenty of respect scoring off drives and three-pointers. On one play, his shot was blocked on a layup, he got the ball back and immediately made a three-pointer.

He averaged 15.6 points as a junior, and he’s one of three elite point guards in the Mission League for next season, joining Parker Cartwright of Loyola, Jaron Martin of Chaminade and London Perrantes of Crespi.

It remains to be seen if there’s any other league that will have a group of point guards close to them.
