Boys’ basketball: Stein is MVP; Loyola wins Ocean View tourney

Joe Stein scored 16 points and picked up MVP honors to help Los Angeles Loyola defeat Santa Ana Foothill, 69-61, in the championship game of the Ocean View tournament. Julian Harrell added 15 points. Loyola is 5-2. Foothill dropped to 7-1.

Corona del Mar defeated Encino Crespi, 55-45, in the third-place game. Danny Cheek scored 21 points. Matt Mounier had 16 points and Carter Gallo had 15 points for Crespi.

In the Santa Monica tournament, San Diego Lincoln defeated Corona Centennial, 66-62.

In the El Rancho tournament, MVP Cezar Guerrero scored 25 points as St. John Bosco defeated Montebello, 65-54, in the championship game.

L.A. Fremont won the Beverly Hills tournament with a 45-43 victory over Woodland Hills El Camino Real.

In the championship game of the L.A. University tournament, MVP David Nwaba had 24 points and 17 rebounds in University’s 72-60 win over Venice. The Wildcats improved to 8-1.

In the third-place game of the Viewpoint tournament, Viewpoint defeated Crossroads, 65-55. Jonny Paul had 15 points for Viewpoint (6-2).

In a nonleague game, Woodland Hills Taft improved to 5-0 with a 69-55 victory over North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake. Kevin Johnson had 14 points and C.J. Blackwell 12 for the Toreadors. Damiene Cain had 16 points and freshman Mike Sheng added 14 for Harvard-Westlake.
