Boys’ basketball: Harvard-Westlake turns to its big men

No. 10-ranked North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake got 21 rebounds from Damiene Cain and 22 points from Zena Edosomwan in a 69-50 victory over Lynwood in an opening game of the Redondo tournament.
What’s interesting is that the Wolverines promoted freshman guard Michael Sheng to varsity and he played well. He scored 34 points in a freshman game but injuries are requiring him to play varsity.
In the Burbank tournament, Darnell Taylor had 20 points in No. 14 Crenshaw’s 72-52 win over Renaissance.
In the Pasadena tournament, No. 5 Corona Centennial defeated Marshall, 87-36. Dominique Dunning had 22 points, Michael Caffey 20 and Gelaun Wheelwright 18.
In the Campbell Hall tournament, the host Vikings defeated Glendale, 78-36. Austin McBroom had 21 points and Cole Huff added 15 points and 12 rebounds.
In the Westchester tournament, Alemany defeated Hawthorne, 79-66. No. 2 Woodland Hills Taft defeated King-Drew, 100-38. Kevin Johnson, in his first game after sitting out last season, scored 19 points. C.J. Blackwell, a transfer from Atlanta, had 18 points and 14 rebounds. Spencer Dinwiddie added 12 points and 10 assists.
In a nonleague game, L.A. University defeated Fullton Prep, 96-27. Andrew May had 18 points.
