The Southern Section release of the divisions for boys’ basketball has produced some interesting movement based on past performance.
In Division 1-AA, the toughest division that includes Santa Ana Mater Dei, Long Beach Poly and Etiwanda, feel sorry for Thousand Oaks, Santa Monica and Pasadena. All were moved up. It’s a great basketball division but there will be only one champion.
The weakest division now is 1-A. Los Angeles Loyola looks the favorite, and the Cubs aren’t as strong as they were last season.
In 3-A, Encino Crespi and Harvard-Westlake were put in the division that also includes Inglewood and Brea Olinda.
In 3-AA, LaVerne Lutheran was moved there and should win it all, though Newport Beach Corona del Mar should be competitive. In 4-AA, Los Angeles Windward will face a stiff challenge from Mission Hills Alemany, Orange Lutheran, West Hills Chaminade and Compton Centennial. In 2-AA, Compton should cruise to a championship.
Here’s the complete divisions.
