Track and field: No photo finish for Woods in 400

There was no doubt about it this time.
Gardena Serra’s Robert Woods annihilated the competition in his qualifying heat in the 400 at the state track meet Friday at Clovis Buchanan High, winning in 47.01. Chino Don Lugo’s Josh Mance, who had edged Woods by .006 of a second last week at the Southern Section Masters Meet, also won his heat in 47.36.
Woods said he had to fight through the sweltering heat and stiff winds that have been prevalent throughout the day. That he was able to compete in a heat that did not include Mance didn’t matter, Woods said.
‘I felt like he was right next to me,’ said Woods, adding that he was not able to let up.
