The streak is over. Chatsworth, which had won three consecutive City Section Division I baseball championships and hadn’t lost a home playoff game since 2000, was beaten by visiting San Pedro, 8-5, Wednesday in a semifinal game.
Hitting home runs has been the key to San Pedro’s success in the playoffs, and Dan Matienzo hit a three-run home run while finishing with five RBIs. Jonathon Mata pitched a complete game. Chatsworth hurt itself with several errors.
San Pedro will meet Woodland Hills El Camino Real in Saturday’s 1 p.m. final at Dodger Stadium.
The Division II championship game at 10 a.m. will match Western League rivals Westchester and Venice. Westchester defeated Hamilton, 4-3.
Venice defeated Fairfax, 2-1. The winning run came home on a controversial call in the sixth inning. Fairfax threw out the runner at the plate, but the umpires ruled obstruction by the third baseman, allowing the run to score.
