Boys’ basketball: Fairfax holds on for victory

Jordan Weathers made two free throws with six seconds left, and Los Angeles Fairfax defeated Carson, 63-62, in a City Section Division I playoff opener. Laik Carter had 25 points and Weathers 22 for Fairfax, which will face Washington on Wednesday in a quarterfinal game.

Washington defeated Garfield, 80-50, with Darrion Thompson-West scoring 21 points and Chris Brown 17.

Woodland Hills Taft defeated Sylmar, 128-29. Bryce Jones and DeAndre Daniels had 23 points each. Taft will play Cleveland, a 68-65 winner over Dorsey. Crenshaw defeated South Gate, 76-29.

In Division II, San Pedro won in overtime over Bell, 49-43. Tyler Rogosic made a three-pointer at the end of regulation and finished with 15 points for San Pedro. Chatsworth defeated Van Nuys, 73-46. University defeated South East, 75-68. Granada Hills defeated Venice, 65-56. King-Drew defeated Kennedy, 64-46. Reseda defeated Grant, 75-74, behind Avri Clavelle’s 22 points.

In Division III, El Camino Real defeated Belmont, 78-21. Verdugo Hills defeated Maywood, 67-42, with Chris Dees scoring 22 points and getting 22 rebounds. San Fernando defeated Locke, 67-62. Margarito Pelayo had 24 points for San Fernando. Franklin defeated North Hollywood, 72-49. Zeve Sanderson had 22 points.

Santee defeated Los Angeles, 68-45. Dominque Cotton scored 22 points. Roosevelt defeated West Adams, 46-43.

In small schools, View Park got 25 points and six three-pointers from Sheldon Wright in a 76-42 win over Fulton. LACES defeated new Design, 80-35. Animo South L.A. defeated Valley Alternative, 73-38.
