Football: Westlake (9-0) vs. Moorpark (9-0)

What a great way to end the Marmonte League football season with a championship game Friday night featuring Moorpark (9-0) at Westlake (9-0). Terrific coaches, top players, loyal fans _ it doesn’t get much better.

Westlake is a little bit of a surprise, having so many young players that the Warriors were supposed to be a year away from championship material. But Coach Jim Benkert has done a great job getting the young players to mature, led by quarterback Nick Isham.

Moorpark Coach Tim Lins could be the coach of the year with the way he has been able to pull off a two quarterback system.

I went to speak with both coaches and a couple of players on Monday, and you could tell the excitement is going to grow each day this week in anticipation of the big game.
