Undefeated Edison is leading Los Alamitos, 13-10, at halftime tonight at Huntington Beach High despite gaining only 70 yards of offense because the Chargers have scored 10 points off two Griffins turnovers.

The second turnover, in which Edison linebacker Steven Malone scooped up a loose ball and rambled about 40 yards for a touchdown, was hotly disputed by Los Alamitos Coach John Barnes. Griffins quarterback Dylan Lagarde had completed a pass to Josh Gasser on the play, and Gasser had been leveled by defensive back Wade Houston, forcing the fumble. Gasser didn’t have the ball for long, though, and Barnes apparently believed the play should have been ruled an incompletion.

Los Alamitos running back Nick Richardson has carried the ball 24 times while Edison has run only 13 offensive plays. Richardson has looked unstoppable at times, gaining 109 yards. Lagarde has completed five of eight passes for 28 yards with an interception.

Highly touted Edison quarterback Matt Viles hasn’t been much of a factor, completing three of eight passes for 39 yards. He also has a 28-yard run.

Edison will get the ball to start the third quarter and needs to show that it can put together a sustained drive.
