Football: Practice starts for Orange Lutheran

Orange Lutheran, the only Southern Section team scheduled to play its opener this month, started practice today.

The Lancers will travel to play Pickerington (Ohio) Central in Columbus, Ohio, on Aug. 30.

This year seems like an aberration with a late start date of Sept. 4 for most teams and only one--Coronado--traveling to Hawaii for a nonleague game. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame plays Spring (Texas) Klein Oak on Sept. 7 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Oaks Christian plays at Sammamish (Wash.) Skyline on Sept. 18 in what could be the Lions’ stiffest test prior to the playoffs.
