When Sherman Oaks Notre Dame lost to San Luis Obispo, 5-4, in the 2000 Southern Section Division IV championship game at Dodger Stadium, no one knew how many former Knight players from that team might one day have a chance to return to the stadium as a professional.
On Thursday, a third former Notre Dame player, catcher Brett Hayes, was promoted to the Florida Marlins. He joins Chris Dickerson of the Cincinnati Reds and Brendan Ryan of the St. Louis Cardinals in the majors. And a fourth player, Steve Moss, is in Triple A for the Seattle Mariners.
‘I’m ecstatic,’ Notre Dame Coach Tom Dill said.
Now people are starting to wonder, how did Notre Dame not win the 2000 championship?
‘I guess poor coaching,’ Dill said.
