It was a strange regular-season finale in the Foothill League on Friday, where Newhall Hart’s Spenser Souza hit a three-run home run, followed by a triple, double and single against Valencia West Ranch.
Hart was cruising along with a 9-0 lead in the fifth inning when West Ranch scored six runs, then added five more in the sixth inning to come away with an 11-9 victory.
Casey Watkins hit a grand slam and Cody Howard also homered for the Wildcats (20-7, 11-4), who had lost three consecutive games after being ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll. Hart dropped to 14-11-1 and 8-7.
