Los Angeles Loyola upset Mira Costa, ranked No. 1 in the nation, 27-25, 25-17, 25-18, before close to 3,000 at Redondo.
Steve Irvin had 13 kills, Michael Dye had 12 kills and Robert Feathers added nine kills for the Cubs (14-2), who had lost to Mira Costa in the final of a tournament earlier this season.
The match will be televised Saturday at 10 p.m. on LA36.
