Edison’s baseball program was struck by tragedy again last weekend when Richard Gonzalez, a member of the Chargers’ freshman team, died after suffering a heart attack while swimming.

Gonzalez was the second member of the baseball program to die in the last six weeks. Nick Mazzone, who played on the junior varsity team, had previously died of complications from the flu.

The Chargers honored Mazzone with a banner at their stadium and with patches on their uniforms. They will stitch a patch in honor of Gonzalez next to the Mazzone patch, Coach Steve Lambright said.
