After the decision of Northern Area representatives on Tuesday to put Oaks Christian in a football league with St. Bonaventure, Grace Brethren and Santa Clara for the 2010 season, Oaks Christian Coach Bill Redell was feeling bewildered.
‘I really don’t know what to say,’ he said.
Oaks Christian has tried to join the Marmonte League, but there are no takers. St. Bonaventure is trying to join the Serra League, and that remains up in the air. The mistrust between private and public schools remains strong.
‘There’s a lot of misinformation in regards to private schools and Oaks Christian, in particular,’ Redell said. ‘And there’s probably a lot of misinformation we have about public schools. They probably sent out a message ‘we don’t want private schools in our league,’ but they have to do something with us.’
All four schools in the new league will be appealing the decision to an appeals panel on May 6. Soon after, the Northern Area will likely have to meet again and come up with a new proposal.
