The All-Southern Section football teams were announced today, with Long Beach Poly’s Melvin Richardson, pictured, named Pac-5 Division offensive player of the year and Poly’s George Daily-Lyles and Tesoro’s Preston King selected as co-defensive players of the year. Poly’s Raul Lara was the coach of the year.
In the Inland Division, Corona Centennial’s Taylor Martinez was offensive player of the year and Huskies teammates Vontaze Burfict and Will Sutton were co-defensive players of the year. Centennial made it a clean sweep with Matt Logan selected as coach of the year.
In the Central Division, Rancho Cucamonga quarterback Greg Watson upstaged more ballyhooed counterparts from Los Osos and Upland to be named offensive player of the year.
The section released its teams in 11 of 13 divisions, with a note that ‘due to weather conditions prior to the holiday break the Northwest and Western divisions will be posted’ Jan. 20. Apparently snow wiped out scheduled meetings in those divisions.
