Colony lost one of the best players in the Southland earlier this fall when junior guard Tyler Lamb transferred to Mater Dei, giving the Monarchs five starters bound for Division I college programs.
But Colony Coach Jerry DeFabiis said the Titans could be a surprise hit this season with three returning starters.
‘We’ve got a lot of young talent, some guys returning from last year and I think we’ll be a lot better than people think,’ DeFabiis said.
The returning starters are 6-foot senior guard Gene Saulsberry, who averaged 11 points, 6-3 junior guard Evan Brooks, who scored as many as 25 points in a game, and 6-6 junior forward Chris Cooper.
Colony will play in the Southern Section Division I-AA this season, where it could meet Mater Dei and Lamb in the playoffs. How would DeFabiis feel about that?
‘I don’t think anybody’s hoping to run into them,’ DeFabiis said of the Monarchs. ‘It’s a tough matchup for anybody.’
