Boys’ basketball: Fairfax wins big in opener

Led by double-doubles from senior standouts Renardo Sidney and Solomon Hill, Fairfax routed L.A. Cathedral, 81-57, Tuesday night in its season opener in the Redondo tournament.
Sidney finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds and Hill had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Lance Bailey had the most well-rounded line with 16 points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Lions, ranked No. 3 in the Southland in The Times’ preseason boys’ basketball rankings.
Small forward Frankie Eteuati, who is being recruited by Santa Barbara, among other schools, scored 19 points for Cathedral and guard Brandon Parga added 18. The Phantoms were playing without starters William Bell and Sergio Leon.
Fairfax’s Jordan Weathers had 16 points. Fairfax will play Harvard-Westlake tonight at 6:30 in a second-round game of the Redondo tournament.
