When you talk about hoops at Compton Dominguez, the first name typically mentioned is Jordan Hamilton. And the recognition is warranted. The 6-foot-7 senior is one of the most sought-after prospects in the nation, seemingly destined for a high-profile Division I program in the near future.

But make no mistake, the Dons have plenty of other talented players -- quite a few, in fact. I had the opportunity to get a firsthand look at some of Hamilton’s teammates in action over the weekend at the Fullcourt Press All-West Camp in Hawthorne and came away impressed with a couple of individuals.

  • Thurman Woods: There’s something intriguing about the 6-foot-5 senior and I just can’t seem to put my finger on it. Perhaps it was his smooth left-handed jumper on Friday. Or maybe it was the way he got after it on defense Saturday. Whatever the case, he’s one to watch.
  • Myron Green: He’s athletic as they come, and that was apparent from Day 1 of the camp. The 6-foot-3 senior held his own every time he matched up against fellow guards Roberto Nelson of Santa Barbara, Justin Hawkins of Taft and Jamaal Trice from Mater Dei.
  • Norvel Pelle: The 6-foot-8 sophomore transferred to Dominguez from Lakewood in mid-June and could be special when all is said and done in three years. The youngster went toe-to-toe with San Diego’s Jeremy Tyler, considered the top junior in the country, a couple of times.
  • Aaron Moore: Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to see the 6-foot-8 senior at any point during the past three days. Come to think of it, I haven’t had a chance to see him at any point during the summer. However, numerous people have told me plenty of good things about him.
