Track and field: Competition fails to catch up with Carson’s Byrd

It wasn’t even close. From the second Jonathan Byrd settled in to position at the starting block Thursday, his competition didn’t stand a chance in the 400 meters during the City Section championships at Birmingham High.
The senior from Carson successfully defended his section title, finishing with a time of 47.43, the fifth-fastest mark in the state this year. Birmingham’s Matthew Robertson was second at 49.81 and Dorsey’s Rahim Moore was third at 50.45.
