Has anybody taken a peek at the numbers Darren Mullen has been putting up for San Luis Obispo? The senior catcher is batting .569 with 38 RBIs, 24 runs and four home runs. He also has a 1.10 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .676.
Of course, he isn’t the only SF Valley/North regional player having an outstanding season. Here are a few players that haven’t been getting too much blog time, even though they’re having great years:
- Dylan Jones (Valencia) -- Just call this kid ol’ reliable. He has hits in 14 of his last 15 games and has a team-best .493 BA to prove it. The junior outfielder also has eight doubles and 18 RBIs.
- Jack Marder (Newbury Park) -- Mr. Marder keeps on illustrating why he’s going to Oregon in 2009. He’s batting an impressive .547 with 25 runs and 13 RBIs. He also has a .624 on-base percentage and 12 stolen bases.
- Denver and Zach Chavez (Santa Barbara) -- These cousins have been the driving offensive force behind the Dons’ Channel League championship aspirations. Denver has a team-best .426 BA with 17 RBIs and 21 runs. Zach is batting .394 with 28 runs, 17 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.
- Martin Medina (St. Bonaventure) -- One of the big reason’s behind the Seraphs’ 18-4 season. Heading into Friday’s game with Oak Park, Medina is sporting a 0.47 ERA with a 6-1 record. Along with teammate Casey Serna, Medina has made the Seraphs one of the favorites for the Division IV title.
- John Brehm (Paso Robles) -- Through 41 2/3 innings, the senior has posted a 0.36 ERA and has struck out 28 en route to a 6-0 record. I guess he’s part of the reason the Bearcats are the current favorite to win the Pac-7 League title.
- Paul Gherini (Bishop Diego) -- The junior has played a key role in pushing the Cardinals to first place in the Frontier League. Heading into this afternoon’s/Friday’s game with Villanova Prep, Gherini is sporting a league-best .564 BA with 20 RBIs and 23 runs. Nice.
