Santa Clara junior running back Cierre Wood told Rivals.com on Wednesday he has narrowed his college choice to UCLA and Notre Dame.
So far, it looks as if UCLA is in the driver’s seat for his services, but that could change this weekend when the 6-foot, 195-pound running machine makes an unofficial visit to South Bend to catch the 2008 Blue-Gold game.
Wood, who led Santa Clara to the Mid-Valley Division title last fall, has received at least 14 scholarship offers and is considered the top RB prospect on the West Coast. As a junior, he rushed for 2,612 yards and 42 TDs and caught 17 passes for 191 yards and two TDs. He has already committed to play in next year’s Army All-American Bowl.
Still, I’d be surprised if he makes a decision anytime soon. Wood’s choice could turn into another one of those high-profile signing-day events.
