Ever heard of that old sports adage, it’s tough to beat a team three times in one year? If not, you must be living underneath a rock somewhere. Anyway, back to my point, the saying held true Friday night in the Invitational Division of the City Section boys’ basketball playoffs.
Verdugo Hills exacted some revenge on Sunset Six League rival North Hollywood, upsetting the fourth-seeded Huskies, 56-55, in a second-round game. Mind you, the 13th-seeded Dons had lost the previous two enounters by seven and three points.
‘We knew what we were up against tonight. We knew Verdugo Hills was going to be ready,’’ North Hollywood Coach Rod Bloom said. ‘What else can I say, we came up short. No sour grapes here. They were the better team this time.’’
