Heading into the final week of the regular season, here’s my final take on the top Southern Section girls’ basketball teams in the region. Everything pretty much stayed the same, except I’m not sure what to do with Oaks Christian and Fillmore. As you can see, the Lions got the better end of the deal thanks to their triumph over the Flashes.

Here you go:

  1. Ventura (22-0, 6-0) -- Victories over Buena and Marlborough proved the Cougars deserve to be here.

2. St. Joseph (22-1, 10-0) -- Beat last week’s Los Padres League opponents by an average of 49 points; have clinched at least a share of title.

3. Harvard-Westlake (16-8, 7-1) -- Nicole Nesbit, Nicole Hung and Sydney Haydel form best sophomore trio around.

4. Royal (19-4, 10-1) -- Could clinch Marmonte League title outright against second-place Newbury Park on Wednesday.

5. Buena (15-9, 5-2) -- Hung tough with Ventura; could be a surprise once the Division I-AA playoffs start.

6. Hart (16-8, 7-1) -- Victories over Valencia and Canyon say it’s looking good for another Foothill League title.

7. Saugus (19-6, 6-2) -- Have the Cents fully recovered? Games against Canyon and Hart will be a test.

8. Notre Dame (17-8, 7-1) -- Sophomore Kody Burke averaging 14.3 ppg and 11.6 rpg.

9. Valencia (16-8, 5-3) -- I really thought Chelsey Hastigan and the rest would keep things close against Hart, but they didn’t.

10. Oaks Christian (17-4, 9-2) -- I’m not going to have a tie for 10th, but I think Tri-Valley League front-runner Fillmore could be here, too.
