Girls’ soccer: San Pedro starts new shutout streak

I wonder if San Pedro Coach Gerhard Weber made his defenders run extra laps in practice on Monday. I mean, they actually gave up a goal to Banning last Friday—the first they’d allowed in eight Marine League games.
Granted, the Pirates were up, 9-0, at the time but hey, there can be no lapses in concentration when you’re flirting with perfection.
Whatever their motivation, the Pirates (11-3, 9-0) made sure they suffered no such indignity against visiting Washington on Wednesday, blanking the Generals, 6-0, to move within one victory of clinching the league title with three games left. Led by freshman striker Amenaide Brown, who has netted 15 goals in her last five games alone, San Pedro has now outscored its league foes, 57-1. Yikes!
That kind of dominance begs the question: Are the Pirates really that good or is their league really that bad? I’m inclined to think it’s the former, but we won’t know for sure until the playoffs start.
