Coach wants to win at basketball, dominoes, just about everything

The man to ask about competitive fire is Chris Francis, the coach of the Compton-Centennial boys’ basketball team. Or maybe just ask his wife, who will no longer play him in a casual game of dominoes due to his fierce will to win. ‘My wife said, ‘I won’t play dominoes against you but I will play with you,’’ Francis said.
His reason for his competitve side: ‘My inner ball just never stops bouncing,’ he said.
Huh, inner ball, Coach? Not sure I understand.
All coaches have it, Francis explained, and it’s the inner ball that flicks on the competitiveness and never flicks off. ‘It’s just always there, bouncing,’ he said.
Centennial (13-10, 3-4) must be extra competitve against Lawndale (19-5, 4-3) in a Pioneer League showdown for second place Friday night. And, please note, the Apaches just whipped first-place North Torrance Wednesday night.
