Gardena, King-Drew going all out in Marine League battle

I was hoping for a playoff-type atmosphere at the boys’ basketball game between Gardena and King-Drew.
That’s exactly what I and the nearly full house at Gardena are seeing. It’s midway through the second quarter, the score is tied at 28-28, and neither team has led by more than three.
The teams, separated by only a half-game in the Marine League standings, seem to understand there’s more at stake than a league title.
The loser won’t be out of the league race, but it will be closer to second than first. That could mean facing a first-round foe like Palisades, a 20-win team that will probably be third out of the Western League, in the real playoffs. . . .
Wow, 41-41 at the half. Can it get any better?
