It was another wild weekend for Dos Pueblos -- so wild Coach Danelle Little lost her voice watching her girls take third place in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions. But thanks to the modern-day convenience of e-mail, I was able to get her thoughts on how the weekend went.
For the second time this year, Dos Pueblos, the top-ranked team in the Division II coaches’ poll, knocked off Foothill, 5-4, for third place after a 4-1 loss to a tough Corona del Mar squad that went on to take the tournament title. The Sea Kings, ranked No. 2 in Division I, are obviously one of the toughest teams the Chargers have played this season and Little said her team learned a lot from the match.
Dos Pueblos also beat Santa Margarita, 14-3, and Los Alamitos, 5-4, during the two-day event.
Of course, things aren’t going to get much easier for the Royals. On Thursday, Dos Pueblos plays at Channel League rival Santa Barbara, ranked No. 4 in Division II, before hitting the pool against No. 8 Ventura on Jan. 22.
