Ranked wrestlers could face off at Temcula Valley Invitational

With at least 20 ranked Southern Section wrestlers on hand, there’s a chance for several key showdowns at this weekend’s Temecula Valley Invitational.

The 140-pound class features three ranked wrestlers -- top-seeded Mario Decaro of Temecula Valley (No. 2 in Southern Section), third-seeded Mike Martinez of St. John Bosco (No. 4 in Southern Section) and fifth-seeded Dylan Garriott of North Torrance (No. 9 in Southern Section).

There are two ranked wrestlers in several other weight classes: 125 (No. 1 Ryan Giovenco of North Torrance and No. 5 Ben Walters of Redlands East Valley), 135 (No. 1 Vinnie Pisani of El Modena and No. 5 Alex Razo of La Quinta), 189 (No. 6 Mario Delgado of North Torrance and No. 7 Kenny Breaux of Carter), 215 (No. 4 Tank Knowles of Santa Ana Calvary Chapel and No. 5 Dave Denner of North Torrance) and heavyweight (No. 2 Eduardo Marquez of Temecula Valley and No. 9 Manny Merez of Righetti).

Temecula Valley is the top-ranked team in the Southern Section; North Torrance is No. 6.

Other events this weekend include the Anaheim District Championships, Laguna Hills Invitational, Best in the Valley at Chaminade and South Hills Duals, as well as tournaments at West Covina, Rancho Cucamonga and Silverado.
