In a Trinity League boys’ basketball game matching second-ranked Mater Dei and sixth-ranked Santa Margarita before more than 3,000 at Mater Dei, the Monarchs came away with a 74-61 victory.
David Wear, playing without his injured twin brother Travis, scored 21 points to lead Mater Dei (18-0, 3-0). Andy Brown connected on three three-pointers in the fourth quarter to halt any chance for a Santa Margarita (17-2, 2-1) comeback.
Gary Franklin had 21 points and Brown 16 points. Jaime Serna had 20 points for the Eagles.
The two teams will play again Jan. 30 at Santa Margarita.
