San Bernardino is the homicide capital of the Inland Empire, so I guess it’s no surprise to learn some of the its students think it’s OK to brawl at the end of a high school boys’ basketball game.
The instigator? A player from Pacific who didn’t like the way he was intentionally fouled by a San Bernardino player with his team leading by one point in the final seconds. Next thing you know, it’s the Wanderers against the Ducky Boys.
When order was finally restored, Carmel Brown, the Pacific athletic director, had a broken hand and Pacific standout Tim Harris had contusions on his face.
As a result, both teams will forfeit their San Andreas League games tonight, as well as the Pacific girls’ SAL game against Cajon (Apparently the Pacific girls’ team jumped into the brawl as well.)
Unfortunately, this kind of thing used to be news, but it’s almost routine these days. Sad, sad, sad.
