They’re No. 1 and they’re scared. Yeah, right.

A.B. Miller is scared. Well, that’s what some would have you believe. There is a story circulating in an internet forum that says Miller Coach Mel Wilkins told Mel Sims, director of the Ayala Extravaganza, that he didn’t want to play Cajon on Jan. 19. The inference is very clear: Miller is scared of Cajon.
Since Wilkins told me on Dec. 31 that his team -- ranked No. 1 this week in The Times’ top 25 -- would play Cajon anytime, anywhere, I had to laugh.
But the story is true.
Wilkins doesn’t want to play No. 16 Cajon. He instead wants to play No. 5 Long Beach Millikan which, in case you haven’t heard, just beat the class of the Southland, Long Beach Poly, 51-46. Poly had been No. 1 in the Southland and was No. 4 in the nation by USA Today.
Cajon had a chance to play Miller in the third round of the Best of the West tournament at Ayala -- Sims matched the two programs against each other -- but Cajon lost in the second round to Bishop Amat. Miller then beat Bishop Amat in the third round.
Millikan also has a victory over Ayala, which has a victory over Cajon.
For marquee matchups, right now Miller-Millikan has it all over Miller-Cajon.
In the correct context, Wilkins and his Rebels have bigger fish to fry than Cajon.
Cajon, by the way, is scheduled to play at Millikan at 8 p.m. Saturday
