Larry Drew of Taft is one of the more highly regarded prospects on the West Coast, has been for quite sometime. In fact, the senior bound for North Carolina is one of the top point guards in the nation, seemingly without peer at times. That is, of course, until now.
Drew met his match Friday in John Wall, considered by many as the top floor general in the class of 2009. The junior from Raleigh, N.C., Word of God Christian Academy scored 11 points and added five assists in a 55-52 victory over the Toreadors in a semifinal game of the GSK Holiday Invitational at Broughton High in Raleigh.
Taft coach Derrick Taylor had some interesting things to say after the loss. Click here or here to read some of his quotes.
As for Drew, who scored 13 points, well, can’t imagine he was pleased with being upstaged. Who would be? It will be interesting to see how he bounces back Saturday against Kinston, N.C., before heading home Sunday.
