When Kevin O’Connell stepped in front of South Hills Cameron Deen and returned the interception 30 yards for a touchdown only one minute into the game, it looked as if El Dorado was going to take this game to Routsville.
But right before halftime, South Hills got a break. Just when it looked as if El Dorado was going to score again, the Huskies forced a fumble inside their own red zone.
The Huskies’ offense found its rhythm and drove down the field. A trick play, in which their receiver threw a 27-yard pass, got them deep into Golden Hawk territory for the first time. That allowed South Hills to kick a 26-yard field goal with 5 seconds left to make it 10-3 at halftime.
El Dorado is playing better, but that fumble forced by Dorian Wells and that drive right at the end have kept the game close.
