St. Bonny has 13-7 halftime lead at bitterly cold Larrabee Stadium

It’s a bitter cold night here at Larrabee Stadium in Ventura, but I guess this is just something players, coaches and fans have to endure in order to truly appreciate football in December. Plus, this is Southern California, so it’s really not that cold if you think about it. I’m just glad I’m covering a semifinal here rather than somewhere like Michigan or Saskatchewan.
But the cold play hasn’t slowed St. Bonaventure. The Seraphs lead, 13-7, at halftime thanks to Darrell Scott’s 52-yard TD and a 37-yard field goal by Derek Kirk in the closing seconds of the first half.
The field goal easily could have been a TD, but three St. Bonny penalties, including a 15-yarder for blocking below the waist, pushed the Seraphs off the Saugus 4-yard line and out of the red zone. I’m sure Coach Todd Therrien was pleased about that.
Scott already has 92 yards in 10 carries. However, most of that came on his TD run. Saugus RB Ryan Zirbel, pictured, has 35 yards and a TD in eight carries.
Hopefully the cold weather won’t slow down the action in the second half.
