Week 6 Rundown

We definitely saw one of the greatest games of the year in Hart’s 31-28, last-second victory over Canyon, and I’m really looking forward to another Foothill League showdown between Saugus and Valencia next week –- a game with huge playoff-berth implications.
Anyway, it wasn’t all about the now-isolated Santa Clarita Valley in Week 6. Here’s some other regional highlights:Panther player: I need to stop being surprised by Newbury Park RB Chris Brown. For the third consecutive game, the junior eclipsed the 200-yard mark, rushing for 230 yards and five TDs in 24 carries in the Panthers’ 35-25 victory over Agoura. He’s got more than 900 yards rushing and is a big reason why NP remains the only undefeated team in Ventura County.
They’re for real: Thanks to a strong defensive performance, Pacifica shook off last week’s loss to Santa Barbara by beating defending Pacific View League champ Rio Mesa for the first time, 17-7. It easily could have been a Pacifica shutout if Garrett Chamberlain hadn’t blocked a field-goal attempt and run the ball back 53 yards for a TD for Rio Mesa, which has been hampered by injuries.
Stepping up: In my book, Darrell Scott wasn’t the RB of the game in St. Bonaventure’s 36-6 victory on Friday. Ventura RB Brandon Dore, who saw lots of playing time subbing for the injured Michael McFadden and Michael Meyer, rushed for 157 yards and a TD in 25 carries. It’s good to see a bright spot in what’s so far been a winless season for the Cougars.
Bulldog bull-rush: Burbank picked up its first win of the season after scoring all its points in the second half of its 22-16 victory over Crescenta Valley. Oddly enough, CV scored all its points in the first half.
That looked easy: Atascadero posted its third consecutive shutout behind a career-best 246 yards rushing and four TDs by RB Nick Tenhaeff in a 34-0 victory over Arroyo Grande. The Greyhounds, who have outscored their opponents 117-0 in the last three contests, are a sure bet for a second consecutive Pac-7 League title.
