WASHINGTON -- Among the crowd on the Mall, the smell of hot chocolate fills the air. For such a gargantuan group, it is strangely, blissfully quiet, almost as if people are in church. It feels like the biggest and coldest TV-watching party ever. The quiet is broken only by the sight of a popular face on the TV screen — Oprah Winfrey, Colin Powell. Then cheers for Michelle Obama.
And finally, huge cheers, then a frenzy of flags is hoisted in the air at the sight of Barack Obama on screen.
