The popular calling service Skype has updated its iPhone app to allow two-way video calling.
After teasing the new app Wednesday evening on its website with a series of videos shot on a mobile device, Skype announced the app was available Thursday.
The new app allows users to make make and receive free video calls -- subject to data charges -- on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, according to a release posted on Skype’s website.
The app is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch fourth generation with i0S 4.0 or above, and users can receive video calls on the iPod Touch third generation and iPad.
It works over Wi-Fi and 3G connections and allows uses to make video calls to friends on their computers as well as on mobile devices.
Users can also make free audio calls to other Skype users via their iPhones and low-rate calls to landlines and mobiles. The updated app is available via the App Store.
