Oregon remains No.1 in polls; Boise State falls to fourth

Oregon held the top spot in this week’s USA Today coaches’ and Associated Press college football polls, but the bigger news was down below.
Texas Christian jumped Boise State in both indexes, while Auburn moved ahead of Boise State in the AP poll on the strength of beating 1-AA UT Chattanooga. Boise State fell from No. 2 to No. 4 in the AP survey despite defeating Hawaii, 42-7.
The four remaining undefeated schools occupy the top four spots in the major polls.
The top five teams in the AP poll are Oregon, Auburn, TCU, Boise State and Louisiana State. Rounding out the top 10 are Wisconsin, Stanford, Ohio State, Nebraska and Michigan State.
The coaches’ top five are Oregon, Auburn, TCU, Boise State and Wisconsin, followed by LSU, Ohio State, Nebraska, Stanford and Michigan State.
The USA Today poll is used in the BCS standings formula along with the Harris poll, which will be released later Sunday, and a computer component.
The top two teams in the final BCS standings, released Dec. 5, will play for the BCS title on Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz.
The AP poll is no longer used in the BCS but still crowns an independent champion. The AP is the oldest of the major polls, debuting in 1936.
