Kings after two: Vancouver 4, Kings 1, too many Sedins

The Kings began to unravel defensively in the second period, missing coverages and giving the puck away in their own zone. The Canucks scored twice in the second, sending Jonathan Quick to the bench in favor of Erik Ersberg after Mikael Samuelsson scored on a long, unscreened shot to the high glove side at 13:31 to pad the Canucks’ lead to 4-1.

Vancouver extended its lead to 3-1 at 8:26, after a faceoff in the Kings’ zone. Henrik Sedin won the draw from Jeff Halpern and nudged the puck to Samuelsson, who got it to Daniel Sedin. He came around the net and took a shot that Quick stopped while holding his stick on its side, but Daniel picked up the rebound and beat Quick with a short wrist shot for his third goal of the series.

The Kings survived the pressure of a Vancouver power play that started at 9:01 but succumbed to the skills of the Sedins and Samuelsson again at 13:31. Samuelsson’s shot had to be more than 40 feet but Quick, sinking to the ice, left enough room above his shoulder for the shot to whiz past him.

That was it for Quick, who was replaced by Ersberg after giving up four goals on 21 shots.
