After Clippers Coach Mike Dunleavy cautioned that the Memphis Grizzlies were a tough team despite being last in the Southwest Division, the Grizzlies went out and proved him right. Memphis, which entered the game having won five of their last seven, held a 58-43 lead over the Clippers at halftime today as the teams squared off at Staples Center. The Grizzlies twice led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter.
Center Marc Gasol led Memphis with 14 points, and forward Rudy Gay added 11. For the Clippers, forward Marcus Camby had 12 points and guard Baron Davis added 10.
The Clippers, who have won three of their last four games, dug themselves an early hole with sloppy ball handling that helped the Grizzlies jump out to an 11-2 lead. Memphis led 28-21 after the first quarter.
