‘Tonight Show’ host Jay Leno’s Monday night monologue touched on the controversy over the cellphone photo that showed Olympian Michael Phelps with a bong in his hands. Here is a bit of what Leno had to say:
I thought his eyes were just red from the chlorine. Remember when he was here, he said he was eating 12,000 calories a day? That’s why. I love how the press -- they act like they don’t know it’s a bong when they report the story. They keep referring to it as a ‘water pipe’ or a ‘marijuana pipe.’ Oh shut up. You know those reporters are all getting high. They’re so politically correct. I’m surprised they didn’t call it -- ‘He utilized a fumigated chronic delivery system.’ Michael Phelps said he expressed bad judgment. And I seem like ... just leave the kid alone. It was not behavior appropriate of an Olympic athlete. Unless of course, you’re an Olympic snowboarder.
