Editor’s note: Sparks center and Los Angeles native Lisa Leslie, selected three times as the WNBA’s most valuable player, is attending the Inauguration in Washington. The 6-foot-5 former USC star will be posting occasionally on The Fabulous Forum while in the nation’s capital.
I’m so excited about this new journey to D.C. I feel like a kid on the way to meet their idol. I know this is serious business when you think about the job that President Obama has ahead of him. Not to forget the state of our country being in the worst shape ever financially in my lifetime, maybe ever. Knowing all that, I still feel happy, excited, even liberated to have this opportunity thanks to my congresswoman, Maxine Waters.
President Obama has truly inspired me to want to volunteer and give more of myself to help someone else. This is the first time that I have followed a presidential campaign so closely.
Rushing home to see the debates, I really feel like I have made this journey with President Obama. With that said, I have an awesome opportunity to meet our new president... OK, hopefully. I’m sure I will stick out above the crowd. I hope he’s a fan of the Los Angeles Sparks and maybe, just maybe he might know my name.
You see, it doesn’t matter who you are, even celebrities are hopeful and have no idea how they can just blend in with the massive crowd and get the same opportunity as every other blessed American who will leave Washington, D.C., able to say, ‘I met President Obama the day of his inauguration!’
