Angels withdraw offer to Mark Teixeira

Tim Mead, the Angels’ vice president of communications, confirmed a foxsports.com report that the team has withdrawn its offer to Mark Teixeira and is no longer pursuing the free-agent first baseman.

The Angels, according to General Manager Tony Reagins, offered Teixeira an eight-year deal, and though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, it was believed to be in excess of $160 million.

The Boston Red Sox offered Teixeira an eight-year deal believed to be worth $170 million, the Washington Nationals reportedly offered him an eight-year, $160-million deal, and the Baltimore Orioles reportedly offered a seven-year deal for about $150 million.
