Denise Richards was a promotional good sport on Tuesday and didn’t cancel interviews she had scheduled in New York to chat about her new role on Spike TV’s ‘Blue Mountain State.’

Of course, everyone, including CNN’s Joy Behar, had other topics in mind, namely Richards’ ex-husband, Charlie Sheen, who early Tuesday morning was found half naked in a hotel room that he had trashed, according to reports in People magazineand The Associated Press. A woman, whose identity has not been revealed but who has been referred to as a prostitute by Radar Online, reportedly alerted security when she became so scared by his behavior that she locked herself in the bathroom.

Later, Sheen was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation, and his publicist issued a statement saying the ‘Two and a Half Men’ star had an allergic reaction to prescription medication.

Richards and the couple’s two daughters -- a 5-year-old and a 6-year-old -- were in the suite next door when it all transpired. Richards told Behar that she had scheduled the publicity trip to New York a few months ago and had added a couple of extra days so that her daughters could visit the Big Apple for the first time. She said that Sheen, who has the week off from his CBS sitcom, asked to tag along, and she agreed because they have been getting along well for 18 months and socialize together as a family.

The actress said that, although she does know what transpired at the Plaza Hotel, she did not want to discuss it. She did say that she went with Sheen to the hospital.

‘As far as what happend and what went on, I’d rather leave that for Charlie to discuss if that’s something he wants to do because that’s something very personal and private,’ Richards said. ‘The thing is that my daughters are 5 and 6 and they’re at an age where they can start to understand. They have no idea what went on, and our stuff happened when they were much younger, which I’m so grateful for. We’re in an amazing place. We’ve been getting along great for the last year and a half and we’re doing our best. So as far as that situation, I’m just trying to protect the girls from it as much as possible.’

Richards acknowledged Sheen’s addiction issues and said that she would never let him near their daughters if he were drunk.

Warner Bros., which produces ‘Two and a Half Men,’ declined to comment Tuesday about whether Sheen’s behavior will impact production on the show next week. Sheen’s publicist issued a statement late Tuesday that Sheen was released from the hospital and is on his way back to Los Angeles.
