Strange Boys to play free alley show Thursday night

Few bands seem as alley-ready as the Strange Boys. The Austin, Texas-bred act slurs and stumbles through boozy, rootsy rock ‘n’ roll tunes, and on the band’s latest release, the studio-recorded ‘Live Music,’ piano reveries are locked in a push-and-pull with vocals that move in a stray cat saunter.

So the unkempt setting next door to Silver Lake’s Old Style Guitar Shop is as fine a venue as any for the Strange Boys. It’s all warm and cozy inside the store owned by handmade guitar specialist Reuben Cox, but it’s always an in-the-know treat when Old Style throws rock ‘n’ roll shows on an alley-adjacent loading dock stage. Such a setting should provide just the right amount of danger for these surprisingly low-key garage rockers.

It all goes down at around 8 p.m. The festivities, of course, are free, and the shop is at 510 N. Hoover St. If you prefer your rock ‘n’ roll indoors, the Strange Boys are playing Friday and Saturday at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach. Sample the Strange Boys below:
