Community college trustee Mark Takano, a Democrat, has out raised his Republican rival for a new, open congressional district seat, campaign reports showed Tuesday.
Takano reported raising $125,472 between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, bringing his total collected for the race to $285,495. He had $212,454 left to spend and owed $8,476, according to documents filed Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission.
Riverside County Supervisor John Tavaglione, Takano’s GOP competitor, reporting raising $87,345 during the latest reporting period, bringing his total to $244,769. Tavagliano began the year with $178,690 in his campaign treasury and reported $31,978 in debts, the FEC records showed.
Democrats hold a registration edge in the new district but both major parties are likely to target the race.
