With Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger staying home sick for the second straight day, an antsy Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) is flying south to Los Angeles to continue budget negotiations Wednesday.

Steinberg spokeswoman Alicia Trost wrote this afternoon on Twitter: ‘Sick of sitting around Sacramento waiting for things 2 happen on the budget, Steinberg packing his bags, flying 2 LA to meet w/ Gov 2morrow.’

Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear said earlier Tuesday that this was the first time in four years the governor had called in sick, calling him an ‘iron man.’ Schwarzenegger currently has a cold, McLear said.

Asked about the state of budget talks Tuesday, Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) told several reporters outside the Capitol that it depends on the governor. ‘We’re waiting for him,’ Pérez said.

Apparently, Steinberg isn’t.

[Update 4:00 pm: It’s a full-on Big 5 party! Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear adds, also on Twitter, “@schwarzenegger has called Big 5 for Wed in LA at 1pm.â€
